Phoenix From The Ashes

I figure its time to get the ball rolling again I will be posting three albums a day along with anything else that catches my eye like this clip from Puff Daddy's Ustream...look how long this girls hair is on fire. It literally takes her at least 15 seconds of full on flames before she realized her head was engulfed in flames.

Top Surprise-Everything Must Go

heres three albums for you kids.
this is a d.i.y. recording that was set up pretty crazy.
produced in two days under the influence of substantial alcohol consumption.
vocals were recorded in the bathroom.
guitars in the living room.
and drums in their parents bedroom.

Madlibs 5th installment

man i have been waiting for this one for a while.
the fifth album in madlibs "medicine show series".
he drops an album every month alternating mixtapes and actual albums.
the previous album was a bit heavy on the reggae/classic dub side for my tastes.
with this hes taking it back to what hes good at.
get this in your ears fast before big brother gets me.
detailed review below.

Back in the 90s, “beat tapes,” as a Hip Hop producer’s demo-reel is now quaintly referred to, were literally that: cassette tapes of beats that a producer made either for himself, his friends, or for potential collaborators. As you can imagine, Madlib made a bunch of ‘em in the days between his early productions for the Alkaholiks (circa ’92) and the release of his Quasimoto album (2000) – after which he took a couple of years off of the beats to focus on making jazz music with his fictional five piece,Yesterdays New Quintet.

This collection of beats showcases the way that Madlib’s early Hip Hop demos were filtered out to his friends and associates and provides an opportunity for a unique view into Madlib’s working process: these beats, often freestyled on whatever machine he had at the ready, were picked up by rappers over a period of many years. Trainspotters will find it interesting that beats later destined for the likes of Wildchild and Percee P were made some years before those albums saw release.

This album is punctuated with a series of early solo-raps by Madlib and his Quasimoto alter ego and features the cadre known collectively as CDP – those rappers who worked side by side with Madlib during the days of his Oxnard-based “Crate Diggas Palace” studios. The Madlib Medicine Show series is a combination of Madlib’s new hip-hop productions, remixes, beat tapes, and jazz, as well as mixtapes of funk, soul, Brazilian, psych, jazz and other undefined forms of music.

Hi-Life Companion - Say Yes

first of all.
apologies for the brief hiatus.
some crazy going's on have derailed my three new albums errday promise.
im in crunch mode now less than a month before this ridiculous test.
trying to make sure that all looks well in the apartment before or landlord does some bogus walkthrough. and making sure that the exhaust pipe doesn't fall off my ride.

this album takes me back to highschool/middle school.
with its simple and catchy melodies steady simple drum lines.
some beach boy -esq harmonies mixed with a dash of low-fi.
big fan of this.

a co-worker of mine makes music.
they call them selves the higher concept and they hail from staten island.
i like what ive heard thus far.
lyrics is good. beats are not bad.
